We tried traps but it is not working.

Use one of those sticky traps. Those work better than regular mouse traps.

There is no "best" there is only pros and cons.
My best answer would be get a snake. Tell a pest control person that you want one.
A cat will also help. Or just get a pan of used cat litter from a friend. The odor will scream CAT at the mice

traps?! how DARE you!? Mice are just inocent little animals trying to live life to the fullest before someone (like you) comes alone and ends it...
I say that you should get a little bowl of cheese and another of water with a tad of sugar, put it just outside teh garage and sprinkel bits of cheese into teh middle of teh garage, then close teh gratge door once the mice leave.

Leave a trail of crumbled cheese from your garage to your neighbors garage across the street. When they cross the road, throw a chunk into their yard every day to keep them away.

Place a small tomato(about 1cm diameter) on a trap.

paint a fake door on the wall of the garage, when they inevitably run into it drop a 1000 pound weight on their heads.

get a cat or sticky traps.I live in the middle of the woods and those are the only things that help.

Get a chocolate bar, hersheys or something, and put it down. Since mice cant fart, they will die.

as long as there are no other wanted animals around try poison. Antifreeze works well it is deadly and tastes really sweet.
