No, because there other means of these people gaining assistance. Not only safer for us as passerbys, but also safer for them as individuals. I guess it is like alot of tough situations in life - it's about the way you go about trying to fond a resolution.

Not any more. Saw a report where a TV crew followed about 6 of them after they were done begging for the day.
They went home to their mansions, drove away in their jaguars and went out for dinner to high-class restaurants after leaving their begging 'post'.
In addition, another report I saw was the deceases the real beggars carry and can transmit to you as you are handing them money. Hepatitis, aids, etc.
So....I just donate via mail to my fav organizations and roll up my window when a beggar approaches.

NO that is what the GOVERNMENT its for...tax payers pay for welfare we should not give to people who are too lazy to work!
I am sorry but I am on SSI disability and cannot work and my ssi got cut to $90 a month, my rent is $500 and you don't see me standing around with a sign!
There are agencies to help those people and I have found them useful to help me.
MOST people that do this are scamers and even use their own kids to help them.
You will not get punished for ignoring them.
They must learn to help themselves.
Once a man said if I did not give him money he would cut my throat! I called 911 and he rode off on his bike!
Another one tried to attack me I sent him to jail!
NO! SAY NO TO SIGN CARRYING BUMBS!
BTW if they have NO MONEY then where do they get a PEN to write the sign?

I have in some cases. There was a time when I was stranded {ran out of gas}. I walked 57miles to nearest town that did not have updated tech.(ATM machines, not even a quick cash place) A man bought my gas AND took me back to my out of the goodness of his heart. 3 days later, I returned to the same town to reimburse the man and found out from the townsmen that he passed away the day before I got there.

Yes, I do give those people money, but it would depend on their situation. If they seem like the type of people who can make it on their own by finding a job and earn their own money, then no. However, if they look piteous and their situation is tragic, then I will give those people some money.

People should change the world so nobody NEEDS to beg. But while we're working on that, I think giving them money if you can, is a very good thing to do.

If the begger comes at my door, then i can't help sending him empty handed, coz my relegion has taught me to not to send the begger empty handed. give him little money but dont let him go without giving.
if i find some person on my way, then i would give money to some helpless looking people. but not to the professional beggers.

NO! in my town i encounter beggars everyday, with the most unique stories you can think of. And they don't ask for lose change, they ask for specific amounts of money like $2.00 or $5.00.

I don't always because it could be a joke. But sometimes, yeah. I once saw a man who was missing an arm -- it was painful to see.

that depends on where you are, but in most places they'll just buy beer and smokes with whatever you give them so I would suggest not to give them anything.
