How did the "cup" system come along?

Like with breast sizes.

This would have been back in the old days. Back when women diden have a bra. They would use cup's and some cup's had A's on them and some had B's and so on they would tie a string to the handel of the cup and put it behind there neck for suport. probably because they are sorta shaped like a cup!
