Thanks Guys you have all really helped
I also checked the state of the thermal grease on the cpu heat sink and to my horror it was burnt black so i'v replaced the cpu and fan and added a thermal cooling pack it seams to be working.
I also cleaned the fans on the cpu and the graphics card, updated the bios and updated the ati patch and replaced the power pack.
Anyway with some luck it should work for a while.
If not i'm going to cry

Yes do as the previous said - download the lastest direct x for your computer

Also test your directx

click start then run the type dxdiag - that should scan your system - now click on display and test direct draw and direct 3d - does your pc freeze ?

check the eventviewer - click on run then type eventvwr.msc - click on the application and look at the list and click on any errors - do the same for system - goto google and search on the results from the event viewer - these can give you clues as you what maybe going wrong

also turn down the hardware acceleration to see if this solves the problem - right click on the desktop and then settings then advanced then trouble shoot - have a go a sliding the bar down - bit by bit see if this helps out

also if fails - right click my computer > then properties > then hardware > then dev manager > click + next to display that should show your graphix card - right click and then uninstall

now goto the ide ata/atapi controllers - click on the plus + then right click on the controller > then uninstall > restart your pc > it should then find new hardware and ask you to restart again - then try a game

if all this fails and you have clean your fans then unfortunately you graphix card may be faulting

hope this helps

Nickname –•(-•RaGhAv™•-)•– seems to know very little about computers, the GPU is measured in Mhz, so the speed would be something like 350Mhz clock speed. The 128MB would be the size of graphics memory on the graphics card.

Onto the question:-

A lot of the information given is good so all you have to do is use the advise given above and,

1. Make sure the graphics card is seated correctly in the AGP or PCI-E slot.

2. Make sure all your RAM is seated correctly.

3. Make sure you have the newest drivers installed for your graphics card, go to the ATI website for them.

4. make sure you have got the Graphics card selected as the main display adapter in the BIOS.

5. Make sure you have sufficient cooling in your system.

6. make sure your monitor has fast enough refresh rate and resolution to handle the new graphics card.

7. Use the dfault settings for the games video options and see if that helps.

I know this may seem like it doesn't relate directly with your problem but I have come across this problem before. Check your anti-virus and firewall settings, some programs (e.g. ZoneAlarm) will pause a program if it tries to access a secure part of your computer, it may be waiting for a response from you but the response window may be hidden by the game-window (press the WIN key to see if this is the case, others will stop programs running because the firewall or anti-virus may see it as a threat. If you are not connected to the internet when you play the games then try to temporarily disable such programs before you start your game but remember to re-start them once playtime ends. Also consider that some games (Medal of Honour, Call of Duty e.t.c) have an auto-configure link in the programs menu folder, this configures the game to match your hardware.

You can download the latest direct x From: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

Whats The Speed Of The Graphics Card? .. I bet it is lower than 128MB... Buy a new graphics card , it should be more than 512 MB if you want to play the latest games.

Well I might also be Overheating problem ...remove the CPU from Overcrowded places .. place it near Ac's Or Away from Sun light and places which are open!

also open up your cabinet and do a cleaning inside of the motherboard for dust and all that stuff .. use a soft cloth only

bye!

I agree with Heinlein. The video card is probably overheating. Mine did that all the time too. I ended up placing the PC on the floor, I took the side panel off and put a floor fan right up to it on high. It doesn't lock up playing games when I do that. If I don't, it locks up every time.

I would guess that the games are pushing your system hard enough to make overheating an issue and it is not a graphics card problem, also if your PSU is a cheap one like comes with most retail PCs they don't stand up to power users very well.

Sounds like you could needed DirectX updates or perhaps greater RAM.

When you buy games, check the minimum specs on the back of the box.
