It's a myth.

Brain scans and electrophysiology shows that we use all of it. Just not all at the same time.

Also, most of it is unconscious. But that doesn't mean it's not active.

The computations going into motor control and perception are staggering. Yet, we are only aware of the end result.

But the neurons behind these computations are hard at work.

If the 10/20% myth would be true, only 10/20% of strokes would result in any serious problems. Clearly, this is not the case. Even though the resulting problems can sometimes be subtle, such as a stroke in the frontal lobes.

No, that is a myth made up from misconception. Everyone uses every part of their brain. Think about it logically, when small parts of the brain are damaged, this can have a devastating effect on the person. There is lack of evidence for this myth and it is just taken out of proportion.

I doubt many people have turned on anything other than their brainstem, so I doubt any significant portion, as in above 1%, has ever been used by 99.9% of the world, most especially by quite a few I've seen here on Yahoo Answers, present company excepted of course. God Bless you.

I think we use our entire brains, it's just that the actual functions performed by certain areas of the brain are still unknown.
