Yes, but it's not a rematch or the actual World Cup. It's part of the UEFA EURO 2008 tournament that will be held in Belgium. Its a tournament that is played every 4 years amongst European countries only. This upcoming "rematch" is part of the opening qualifying rounds. It's just a coincidence that Italy and France are scheduled to play against each other so soon after their recent World Cup final match.
Materazzi has been suspended for 3 games and was also fined. He will miss the rematch due to the FIFA imposed suspension.

Noway this happens, it's true that rematches are possible when one of the players are subject to racial discrimination, but this wasn't the case in the world cup final.
Now everyone knows what was said between zidane and materazzi, and that wasn't a racist comment from the defender, so there would be no rematch.

Materazzi will miss the 'rematch' between France and Italy, the 'rematch' being a Euro2008 qualifier. So in a way you are right.lol.

keep dreaming and get over it.......what they are talking about is since Materazzi got a 2 game suspension from international play that includes the qualifying round for the upcoming Euro 2008.......France and Italy play Sept. 6th (they are in the same group)....and Materazzi will miss that game since it will be Italy's second international game!

Well judging from your screenname (mrs_zidane), it is obvious that you are stil bitter over the whole world cup finale. Provoked or not, your player Mr Zidane should not have used his head in that fashion. If he had used his head properly and you might have seen a different outcome. sports figures get provoked like that all the time and whether it is right or not, the use of physical force is unacceptable on the field of play. So it is time to put the headbut to rest and move on.

i think they were talking about the opening match of the European Cup qualifiers where France will play italy ( they are probably calling it a rematch because the two teams are playing again)

Yes Cantona will be coaxed out of retirement and will score the winning goal. After this he will do a karate kick into the stands(remember this?)get the red card and will inspire 3 more weeks of Yahoo! questions.
After all Eric is French. It should be expected of him.
