During the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883, the tsunami on august 26 1883 carried a ship 3 km inland and the waves were up to 120 feet tall....This is the largest recorded tsunami as far as I know and the water might well have travelled farther inland if the point of origin was closer to land.

It can vary greatly depending on the size of the tsunami and the depth of the water. In earth's history there have been some waves two to three miles high. Usually from an asteroid impact. Also the terrain of the land can be a factor too. Lots of variables in that one.
