Actually, Brandy has the right answer. Super glue remover. It's available at any hobby shop, pretty common. The thing to remember is, apply the remover, give it a few minutes to work - then apply it again. Repeat this, until it can be pulled off by hand. Tapping with mallets, screwdrivers, etc., can very easily pull off glass as well. Be patient - and you can SAFELY remove it - otherwise, you'll end up with a chunk of glass stuck to your mirror button.

A putty knife placed right at the edge (slightly under it) with a few careful taps on the end of it (the putty knife) with a rubber mallet should do the trick.

zippo or equivelant lighter. have something available to catch it that won't melt or burn. heat it up, big time hot, then couple taps with mallet and screw driver should do the trick,
