Just curious to see if Optimum Online (one of the largest cable providers) tracks what its users download or how many gigabytes per day/month/year each user downloads. Since there has been a crackdown on illegal movie downloads, it would seem easy for a cable company to figure out who is downloading movies by looking at who uses above average bandwidth. Not that all people who use large amounts of bandwidth are downloading movies, however, it would be a good place for investigators to start.

In general all ISPs track their customers activity. But what they do with that information is what you have to be concerned with. And even if they don't do it today does not mean that they won't be doing it tomorrow. Keep in mind that there is no real way to keep your identity or activity a secret on the internet. It just depend on who, when, and how bad someone wants to get that information.
