how do i beat this part on lemony snicket?

I have the game lemony snicket: a series of unfortunate events for the ps2 and i am stuck at this part...i am trying to catch uncle montys snakes and have just gone in to the east maze and have to kill some wasps to continue....my problem is i can't seem to kill em. i keep flinging fruit at the hive but that does not work and i can't seem to get them at all as they are too high...can anyone help me?
