My father is pressuring me into becoming a prostitute in Las Vegas, because he says I would earn good money with my looks. I dropped out of college and just have my high school diploma. I'm wondering whether I should do it for a few years so that I can pay for college. What do you think? BTW I want to go into Microbiology afterwards.

My dad just wants me to be able to make good money so I can go back to school. He says it because he loves me and wants to suggest something that would be better than working at McDonalds for $5 an hour.
If you think it's a bad idea, fine, but don't criticize my dad! He's just trying to look out for my best interests.

I'm at a complete loss, I REALLY don't know what to do. I feel frustrated and suffocated because I'm not earning any money, I keep depending on my dad to pay for everything. I think I'm just going to do it, I can't keep wasting my life like this... It may be funny to you guys but I'm on the verge of tears right now. It's so depressing. I see all these happy people around me, and I never get to have fun because I have no money. I'm like 80% sure I'm going to do it. If someone on this board would just give me some reassurance I would go for it.

Actually, prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas. However, it is legal in areas around Las Vegas. If your own father doesn't think you're worth more than your good looks, then how can you believe that about yourself? I don't think you should go into prostitution. There are LOTS of financial aid programs and scholarships out there to help you pay for college, and it sounds like you've already gotten started. You can get a two year degree in nursing or another medical field from a community college and make enough to support yourself. Tell your dad that if he wants somebody to prostitute themselves, maybe he should try selling his body for sex first.

Don't do it. It would ruin your life forever and you will regret it the minute you decide to become one. There are plenty of ways to pay for college. Get a job or tutor. It's more meaningful to earn money that way than through dirty ways. When you look back at this 10 years from now, you'll be glad you didn't. Best wishes and stay strong.

What about stripping? If you really want to work in the sex industry, you could do it in a hands-off way. If you're able to avoid the drugs and booze, you can make a lot of money. I know some girls who have done it, but they all succumbed to the drugs. Regardless, they made a lot of money. If you do decide to strip, do it in a different city than you plan to study. If your prof goes to the strip club and sees you gyrating against a pole, chances are it will influence your grade for the worse.

I'm a little skeptical about your father's advice, but I do think that if you go into prostitution, you'll automatically be well on your way to discovering the wonders of microbiology.

would prostitution be a choice, ever, if you thought you could do better? if the answer is no, i think your idea of your own self worth is greater than your question. there are always other options. you defend your father; but really, would any father want their child to prostitute? it may not be the way to instill in to your child how to acquire self esteem, particularly when your self esteem isn't so strong if you are even considering this option.
