Destroyed jeans

The look is rough with denim wear this season. Ripped, shredded, faded, frayed, bleached and stone-washed jeans will be en vogue as part of a rebel-casual look that is proving popular with young Hollywood fashionistas like Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie.

Most denim stores are offering some sort of variation on the destroyed look - invest in a high fashion pair from Abercrombie & Fitch, for example, or do it yourself with an old pair of jeans.

A few tips for destroying your own jeans; using a new razor blade, score the jeans in strategic areas like knees, ends and front thighs. For vintage softness, try running a steel brush over the jeans. To get the bleached look, hang your jeans on the washing line or drape them over the balcony. Wearing rubber gloves, flick at the jeans gently with a small paintbrush dipped in bleach.

Just remember - the look is frayed, not cut. Stay away from scissor-cut knees and backs of thighs, or risk being mistaken for Jon Bon Jovi circa 1986

Here's a few ideas -

Try using a cheese grater to give them that worn look, it doesn't actually make holes, just roughs them up a bit.

Try removing one of the back pockets, the fabric is usually darker underneath so this looks quite good.

Cut a hole in one of the knees. Just cut a straight line (not an actual circle) then fray the edges.

Undo the hems at the feet, and fray these adges a bit.

Hope these help!

Cut out the pockets of old jeans and sew them on?
To make the holes, just make a small cut with scissors then rip it with ur hands. Then frey the edges by pulling out the threads. You could also try cutting off the bottom hem and freying them using the same technique. Fabric paint squiggles on the back pockets also look cool.

Good Luck!

seriously have a couple of frayed places...but on one knee at least have a hole there because it is really cute

use a chease grater and sand paper for the fraying
and then slit a hole in the knee and then stretch it and cut some jean off the edges and then fray the edges...it takes a little while to fray the edges...

get a grater and grate the surface of a section of jean and it will create a grazed look.. no holes should be made just loose stitching. river isalnd uses that method. or just cut a little hole and pick at the stitching and you will get loose treads that will hang.. rips are in fashion and so easy to do! Good luck chick.. you will look groovy!!

Take a razor and run it over a spot on the jeans u want a hole, and on the seams to give it a frayed look.

splash bleach on it, rip it up, cut random holes and slits, or use razor to wear down the spot, instead of directly cutting it. no sequens, ewwwwww!!! lol, and you can even cut a slit, then crudely sew it back together, so you can tell it's been sewn.......or do the same thing, but instead of sewing it, put in safety pins to hold it together. i can just see ur pair of pants now, and they are lookin hott! but this style might be more punk and rebel, then 'groovy'

easy. go to a shop and buy glitter glue pens put some funky designs around the pockets dry it with a hair dryer and buy loads of beads put them on a string and make it a bead belt. plus you could put some funky gliter desgins around the bottom of the jeans, trust me they will look great plus it wont look childish. if you do it with style, done it once and my mates where asking me all night wear i bought them from, you could say i was the belle of the ball. hope that helps. good luck hun. x

If you have some sand paper lying around (as you do) and just choose a few areas to give it a distressed look (pockets, knees, etc) or if you don't have some sand paper then a cheese grater will do :-)
