If you put poison in someone's drink and tell them there is no poison and they believe you, does that mean they won't die from the poison? No!

If you perceive something to be real is it? This discussion can probably go on ad infinitum given all the philosophers that have grappled with it, but I'll give it a try.

The first thing to do here is decide what your definition of real is.
I would say something that is real is quantifiable, and can be measured, and shown to exist. It is something which is factual and not imaginery.
There's still a problem in showing things do exist however, and some consider things real if considered to be by the majority of 'normal' people in a certain society.

From a psychological view, if you are delusional, then the answer is no.
In that case, you would be the only person perceiving 'it' to be real.
Unless, of course, a 'mass delusion' has occurred, in which case several persons would then be perceiving something to be real which isn't.

As for Metaphysics: Metaphysics is the theory of the ultimate nature of reality. It asks the
question: what is real? Another word for metaphysical "theory" might be
metaphysical "belief," since one's metaphysics, or fundamental worldview,
is basically an assumption - it cannot be proven. It is simply a belief
held by a person as to what is the best explanation of reality and
what reality means, in that person's view.

Perceive.

Well yes, to some extent that is true. I always say that's not true because I don't believe it. I guess reality is very much a subjective thing. Everyone's reality is different.

To use the example of God, if people believe God to exist, then in their minds he is real. They may then perceive something to be an act of God, whilst I, as an atheist would not perceive this to be the same. To them it is real, to me it is not.

The same goes for any type of paranormal phenomena. If you believe it to be real, it is, if you don't, it is not within your subjective reality.

However, there are some things one cannot avoid. e.g. i may perceive a chair to be made of metal, but in fact it is plastic. I am definitely wrong here because there is empirical evidence to the contrary. However, were I to disbelieve empiricism then perhaps the chair would still be metal in my reality. I think this is where paranoid schizophrenics have a problem, because reality is informed by other sources also, but you have to trust these other sources to inform you correctly.

So yes to some extent this is true. E.g. you may perceive someone to be excessively beautiful whilst everyone else is repulsed by them. In your private reality it is so, but some things are unavoidably unchangeable I'm afraid.

it all depends on the person's state of mind. if the person is delusional and hallucinating, they may beleive what they experience too be real, and no matter how much someone may try to tell them that what they see or hear isn't real, doesn't convince them, and vice/versa. have you ever had a dream and woke and thought about it later, and said to yourself, was that a dream or was it real, because the mind in a unconscience state will make things appear as though they are or not real. hopefully, reality comes in and the person can make that distinction.

Learn to spell properly, "perseve" is not correct spelling, it is "perceive", and I will regard your philosophical musings with a greater degree of respect.

If you are talking about the real, physical world, I think you might have a problem. If you are speaking about unsubstantial things, like sin, I think your perception would be true.

Ah, philosophy. Never did it. Is something real if you think it is? Like Bart Simpson, you mean? He's realler than Leonard in our bank.

In order to find a solution one must first be aware that there is a problem. One must acknowledge what IS, rather than what one hopes there is or is not.
