As one California girl to another, SHOPPING!!! They have a ton of stores we don't have in the states. I always come back from Ottawa with new clothes and not only do I get compliments, but people are bummed when I tell them where the stuff came from.

Byward Market is quite the experience. Go during the day, though; it gets a bit rough at night.

If you want to go to a FUN museum, go to the Museum of Science and Technology. It reminds me a bit of the Tech Museum in San Jose, CA or the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

Boat on the Rideau Canal. I haven't done that yet and I really want to!

There are tons of fun things to do. I also live in Ottawa and I could give you some suggestions to do in Ottawa. Visit these places:

1. Parliament Hill
2. Rideau Hall (Governor General)
3. Foot Guards Parade (at 10am at the Hill)
4. War Museum on Lebreton Street.
5. Royal Canadian Mint on Sussex Street
6. Foregin Currency Museum (on Sparks Street)
7. Sparks Street Mall
8. National Art Gallery
9. Rideau Mall
10. Glebe Mall

Enjoy your stay in Ottawa and I will guarantee you will love Ottawa. There are many things to do all year round, no matter what the season is.

things not mentioned above:

Go to Dows Lake and rent a boat, canoe, peddle boat, take a boat tour of the Rideau Canal, Take a beautiful walk along Queen Elizabeth Parkway and smell the flowers. Take the wild rapids ride on the Ottawa River and go behind the Chateau Laurier and look at the old locks. Rent a bike and explore ottawa, we have the greatest bike paths.

Byward market is always fun. But if you want real fun, go two blocks over to the Salvation Army and watch the bums all day long.

If Kunaldevchen's list turns you on - then good luck. I suggest that you head for Niagara on the Lake.
