Currently, end users can not make use of the USB ports on DirecTV DVRs. (I've asked DirecTV)

For the time being, you'll have to do it the hard way: Use the copy to VCR functionality in your DVR, and a TC card in your PC along with software to convert that video stream into a video file. I know that sucks bigtime, but I think DirecTV is afraid of lawsuits if they allow digital copies.

No easy way only way is to have a TV tuner card installed on your PC like a ATI tv tuner or all in wonder card. You would take the output from the DVR and plug it into the ATI card in your PC. You can use coax or SVideo and sperate audio channels then play the show and make sure it is showing up on your PC.Start over and choose record the ATI card will create a MPG4 file of the show.

I believe there is an article that addresses that in this month's Popular Science. Check it out> There is also the capabilty for capturing digital recordings for any device as long as a firewire outlet is also available on the devise or, in this case, the DVR. If there isn't a way to transport the signal off of the DVR, then you may have to use some sort of splitter to "share" the signal so you can intercept it in "real-time." Does this make sense to you? If not, you have my handle.
