From 1900 to the present, I would rate Nelson Mandela as probably the greatest man. Pope John Paul II and President Kennedy would be in my top 5, as well.

It depends whether you rank it on influence on events for good or ill.

For mine, the people with the greatest positive influences are:

1. Winston Churchill for his inspirational leadership in World War II
2. Ronald Reagan during the Cold War
3. Albert Einstein for his scientific influence
4. Mahatma Gandhi for his role in ending imperialism
5, Francis Crick and James Watson for discovering DNA structure.

ronald reagan,
When he took office Carter had created a huge mess.
there was Stag-Flation. Poor economic economy. people did not believe the U.S was a good place to live any more, etc...

Regan re-lit the light that is the U.S
He stimulated economic growth, curbed inflation, increased employment, and strengthen national defense.

Reagan has been credited with being instrumental in the 1991 downfall of the Soviet Union. Reagan was a leading figure in orchestrating the collapse of Soviet Communism in 1991

Overall, the Reagan years saw a restoration of prosperity, and the goal of peace through strength seemed to be within grasp.
