America recognizes Che Guevara, Mao se Tung and Fidel Castro as communists. Nelson Mandela is recognized a political activist and leader. The name Bhafat Singh is probably not know.

Typically not, since they clash with American ideology, ie: Capitalism vs Communism/Socialist.
And in the Case of Mao, I believe he just manipulated the youth into thinking a revolution was at hand when actually he was trying to regain control of the country after he was ousted.
In the case of Castro, many Cubans believe it was a revoultion, but then Castro pretty much just set up a dictatorship, where his rule is law, which is a stark contrast to his original campaign of people's republic.
But from an academic standpoint most of these people would be called revolutionaries since they did reverse and bring about a new society in their wake.

it depends who's is in the oval office at the time and what the American people can gain from recognition. People all seem to forget that Nelson Mandela was imprison, all be it by a fascist government, for being the leader of a terrorist organisation. An organisation that killed many but then one mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorists

I know four of the five (sorry not singh). Not all Revolutions are good. At least three of the four I know made their countries worse, not better.
I looked up Singh and I prefer Gandhi's methods. So I guess it makes four out of five who were revolutionaries who did (or would have) made things worse, not better for their people. Gandhi would make my top 5 people who made the world a better place during the 20th century.
The other 4 are Churchill, FDR, Reagan and Edison.

Most Americans don't know any of these names.
The Americans that DO know these names are likely to regard these figures as opponents of democracy. (with the exception of Nelson Mandela).
Being educated in America, I was never taught about any of these figures. I found out who they were through self- guided study. While I recognize them as revolutionaries, most of these figures adopted Marxism, whilch I believe to be a dangerous solution.
