More young people (under 25) in the USA can name all of the winners of "American Idol" but couldn't name 5 things that the federal government is empowered to do as specified in the U.S. Constitution.

I agree and I blame the education system for dumbing down the curriculum to ensure that more students pass the requirements thereby allowing the school districts to pull in more federal money.

Agree...it's a case of priorities. It's more important for them to be able to discuss American Idol around the McD's water cooler than to discuss the constitution. There's plenty of time left in life to discuss and learn the more serious things (which they SHOULD have learned in school). This is not a generalization of all young people as I know there are many who CAN name 5 empowerments. I fear they are the minority.

Do I agree that this is true? Yes, it sounds like it could very easily be true. How to change it? I don't know, alter the way the media works...good luck there. Improve public schools...oh I hope so!
I wonder if adults could name 5 things the fed. gov. is empowered to do by the Constitution.
If adults don't know and they are raising the kids, then how do we expect the kids to know?

Probably true. After all, more people in the U.S. can name the members of the Simpsons family than their basic rights. Talk about the "dumbing down" of American culture...

When America was in the midst of the last presidential election. My teenage son was the only one in his class that could say who all the candidates were.
People really need to pay attention to these politicians. And know their rights as American citizens.

Agree. And, do you know that there are numerous politicians (etc) who have never even read the Constitution? As we give our sovereignty as a nation away to others (ex: UN) and question the fluidity and efficacy of our Constitution, I think we weaken the foundations of our great nation.

I agree. The young people in America will be known as "generation apathey." They vote for the people their parents vote for, cannot justify their positions on anything, never read the news.

It's going to bite us in the *** one day because your people have a powerful voice, but they are to apathetic to use it.
