It should be legal; and that said it should also be well regulated for that is fair.

If you want to burn an American flag you should have to obtain a permit. The permit should be affordable - say $20/$25. If you do burn a flag without a permit a 5 year mandatory prison sentence should be required - thus getting a permit will be important.

Once you have a permit the date and time of the burning must be listed within a few hours. A photo ID is required to obtain a permit and this ID should be posted on the Internet with all the other permits. This way we can see, for historical reference, who felt it was necessary to burn our flags. The permit fee should cover this cost.

Someone who burns the American flag should stop to think what they are really doing.

I carried the flag on my shoulder for a year in Iraq. It means more to me than it does to many people. Burning it is an insult to all Americans. Perhaps the people doing the burning should consider expatriating themselves. Too many people have a me-me-me approach to being an American citizen and take it for granted that other people have secured their rights by taking up the flag and defending it.

While I would like it to be illegal I doubt that will ever come to pass.

Honestly, why would someone want to the American flag if they live in America? It's anti-patriotic! People burn flags of other countries during wars and what-not. But why burn your own flag?? I think anyone who burns a flag should be deported.

There are better ways of expressing oneself than burning what many view as the symbol of freedom. There is only one way that a flag should be burned and that is when it is taken out of service due to wear or age.

When a Flag is worn out and its colors start to fade, YOU ARE SUPPOSSED TO BURN IT OUT OF HONOR.

What we see Arabs doing, is BURNING IT IN PROTEST.

I think burning the American flag in protest is a stupid thing but, I don't believe it should be illegal. Flag burning is a freedom of speech act. The Constitution allows the American citizen to do things like that out of protest.

The Republicans and neocons are SICK FOOLS for trying to pass laws to stop flag burning. They are so threatened by the smallest threats anmd totally ignorant to the larger threats.

When I was a kid 50 or so years ago, I thought the flag was our
icon of freedom etc. Now, it holds no particular significance for
me. It lets me know I'm on USA soil & that's it.It has lost all of it's
original meaning to me.
So, flag burning is'nt offensive to me. My relatives fought & died
in conflicts & wars, but , Who actually Dies for His country?
They died due to injuries received.

It's an expression protected by freedom of speech.

And it's causing a huge waste of time in Congress. There have been four (count 'em, four) incidents of flag burning in the U.S. in the last three years.

only when a flag is worn out and out of service and in a honorable way. i think everyone has the right to do what they want to do but i've seen some friends buried with that flag on their caskets and it makes me wonder about people that burn the flag for no reason. but personally burn it in front of me and i have the right to crack your skull but hey thats me.

I think it should be against the law. Since alot of soldiers are here in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, coupled with many contractors, and I'm one of the contractors, I take as an insult, and I won't tolerate it in my presence. I've also got about 30,000 people with me on this base that I'm sure feels pretty much the same way.

Is there a way we could deport flag burners? I think they should have the right to burn what ever they want....where ever they are going. Just don't do it here. You have got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything!
