In the sims (the original) how do u get promoted?

Make sure that you are happy, well fed and rested, educated in the right things, and your fitness level is good. Different jobs need different things. Also, don't be late for work, ever.

Make sure your skills are at the required level - it should indicate on your skills bar what level you need to be at for promotion

Make sure you go to work quite happy.
