I've had a guitar for about two years and I haven't really tried to play it. Lately, I've been wanted to pick it up...but, obviously, I need to know what I'm doing. Any ideas for just starting? Lessons? Please.

It's great that you want to learn how to play guitar! I learned by #1 looking at a retro step-by-step beginning guitar book my mom used and #2 being with friends who play who gave mc tips and taught mc songs. Find a small, simple-looking how-to book for basic chords, and if songs aren't included in that book, get a book of songs with simple guitar chords so you can practice what you learn and feel like you are actually playing something. That's a good start. There are also lots of sites online that have songs with guitar chords that you can print out or whatever. At somc sites you can even change the key to correspond with whatever chords you just learned. Good luck and keep at it!

The best thing you can do is to go to a music shop and get lessons from an instructor. Sometimes they can be expensive. If you can't afford that then just go buy some of those books that have c.d.'s included with them and try learning some on your own.

find some friends that play or someone that is or was a guitar player...have them teach you some techniques which will be key to a good start....once you have that, you can start learning chords and appregios....

I also foud that Tablature is very good for beginniers, but it requires you to know what you are playing since there really isnt a ny timing signature or no way to know the lenght of a note....

A lot of guitar shops give lessons that are not real expensive. You can also get book and videos that will teach you basic cords.

I've found when you get a really good teacher you learn very fast. My teacher is how should I say... amazing he taught me how to do pinched harmonics in 5 minuets.(there different from just plane harmonics)
