I want to do political science because the degree allows me to minor in foreign language and take some business classes. However, I don't know what kind of career I'm looking for, and I don't specifically want to do something with political science. Pol Sci is just the best thing I can think of. Other options for me might me: music education, German, or business(I am staying away from business because I don't think I will do well in the classes, and I won't be able to choose a minor because of the degree requirements.) Any thought?

You might find this hard to believe, but your major is not as important as the college degree itself; your degree indicates that you have a well-rounded education, even though you have take some special courses in a particular field. So, my friend, choose a major that interests you... something you really enjoy. Let your passion be your guide. The key is to get your diploma, and that will open doors for you. You should also think about your interests, your likes and dislikes... this will guide you in your career-choosing process. You have a long time in the world or work... when you time is over, won't it be nice to look back and say, "I enjoyed what I did."

You may want to take a career inventory test such as the one based on John Holland's theory (see www.self-directed-search.com or your college career counselors). I have recently taken this inventory and discovered that I might not be in the best career for me. Better to learn about this now before shelling out for your college tuition; but, there is time. Work on your general studies and, especially, talk to others in various majors. You should be able to delay your major declaration until late in the 2nd year. Best of luck and stay in school!
