EVERYTHING stated above is actually incorrect.
The calculator is actually right - on a technicality. What you must have done was put a subtraction sign before 8, not a negative sign. On must graphisn calculators there is a different number. Therefore, you have negative three times minus (not negative!) eight. See, the calulator chooses the last operation before a number. Therefore, it recognized it as you typing (-3) - (8). To make this work, you need a negative sign, not a subtraction sign.
Wish you all the best!

Calculator is correct!!!
What u r doing is putting -3 then pressing * (to multiply) then pressing - sign (this cancels the previous command of multiplication and the new command is MINUS) then 8
so in effect the problem as understood by calculator is -3 -8 which is obviouisly -11

the asterisk key should have multiplied the two values, giving you 24. -11 is -3 + -8. The calculator may be wrong, try some other test values and see what you get, looking for consistency in any errors.

Look for a key on your calculator labeled +/-. The keys you should hit to multiply 3 and -8 are:
3
*
8
+/-
=
The answer should be -24.
*- means different things in different calculators.
