i see a lot of real estate listed as " gentleman's farm " any help as to what this actually means

My dad had a gentleman's farm. It was 179 acres that he used for raising hay for his cattle that he ran on it. No row cropping. It means a farm that requires enjoying, and little actual farm work.
Also a farmer with an independent source of income who farms for pleasure rather than for money

Yes, cindylou is right. Also, wealthy people often do some very token "farming" on their properties to get a tax break by saying their land is used for agriculture.

a farm which has no actual hard work like a poultry farm it is more a
farm for growing plants
