I work at a call center on the west coast, I started out making $8.00/ hr, and am up to $8.75/hr after 10 months, probably closer to $9.25/ hr. after my year is up. My co-workers always complain that this is the lowest paid call center on the west coast, and that we should be starting out at $10.00/hr. What I'm asking, has anybody ever worked at a call center, and if so what did they get paid?

Thanks

Maybe I should clairfy, I don't work in telemarketing, I work for a company that handles customer service for a few different companies, so I have to know everything about appliances and consumer electronics.

you should go to public storage call center in glendale , they start out pretty high . But if you gaot a $1.25 raise in 1 year that seems pretty good especially if they continue with the raises , maybe they start you out so low is because there is a lot of turnaround in call centers

There are diferences in pay from one project to another (from selling different products), from one company to another, and from one side of the country to the other, and from the pay overseas. In addition you have to consider the amount of sales a person makes, and consider that some people make commission bonuses in addition to their hourly pay (and they add that to their salary to say they make a better wage), and the company has to consider how many chargebacks they get on what you market/sell, plus that telemarketing jobs have high turnover so maybe they reward those who stay longer with a raise or even just their own office. Sometimes too there is a gasoline (or miles traveled) extra dollars in your pay for driving far and still staying with that company.

If you're not happy with your wage you can move on to another company, move to another project, work two shifts, or work a better shift (when people are home to answer you). Sometimes you get fewer sales because the company is not working from a "purchased guaranteed list".

Because of the turnstyle type business telemarketing is, don't expect a reference from this kind of company, especially if you got the job thru a temp agency.

When I worked telemarketing it was $7.50 an hour, 7 hours a day (and they had about 30 people working and were in a small area of one floor in rented space. I've known of $10 an hour in our area as well (the company was very large and rented several floors of a very nice building). So to me it means if you want more money, work for a larger comany who buys their leads.

In the Philippines or India, they get as high as P20,000 per month or roughly $380. That is West Coast. Your company might already be contemplating offshoring, which is the trend, either within the areas mentioned, or latin America, or even former Russian countries.

You're still lucky the company hasn't moved yet. Look for other jobs if you find your job low paying.

Verizon Wireless's call center in Bellevue, WA starting payrate is $12.00 per hour. My friend worked in a call center in Bothell, WA for a pharmacutical company and he made $14.00 per hour.
