Do you believe that people are born with a "good" gene and a "bad" gene that makes them good or bad people, or do you think that everyone that is born is a good person that things happen to make them " bad"?

And christians, I am not talking about being born with the "sin nature"

Hello, yes, I have noticed that some people tend towards anti-social behavior by nature, and others, with far worse lives do not seem have these tendencies. I would not find it surprising to find that a person on the edge so to speak, could gravitate towards or away from anti-social behavior depending on their upbringing, but I really do think that for the most part people come wired to be social, unsocial, or something in between.

I don't know about a "good" gene or a "bad" gene... but they could be born with a genetic makeup that makes them more acceptable to mental illness or anti-social behaviors. I guess this could be considered "bad"

Much of what makes a person "good" or "bad" is their upbringing. If they have loving parents who provide what they need growing up, have a good education, are disciplined properly when they are most impressionable, they will tend to turn out OK.

Lastly, i don't subscribe to such black and white thinking that there are only good and bad people in the world... there are shades of Grey. Some people could possibly be considered so bad that i would call them a bad person. Most people however have done some good and some bad in their lives... It's pointless to judge.

No, there are no good genes and bad genes, i dont believe. I think how a person turns out in later life depends on the 3 most influencal things. The media, their parents, and who they hang out with around their age. How those people act is most likley something how that person will turn out. Not always, but the majority of the time.

I think it's a combo of both. I'm unsure if it's the gene thing or just being born with the ability/unability to deal with certain things that happen in your life. 2 people can be raised by the same people, the exact same way and turn out totally different. Let's say both were molested, one deals with it by conventional means (therapist etc) and learns to live socially with other people and one becomes a rapist.
Lost my train of thought LOL, hey, I'm old! :)

I believe that everyone learns the habts andpersonalities that they have. If they are raised in certain environments, there are things that are so entrencehd in that environment that they pick up whether knowingly or not. If the people they are surrounded with are basically good people, those habits and personalities get transferred to them. If there is a bad environment or one that isn't so much bad as it is ignorant and chooses to stay that way...well you get what you learn. People are not born with the knowledge of anything, they learn it all by the atmosphere they are surrounded by and subjected to.

Bad or Good ?

You, I, Others, none of us is bad or good, we just live a life without really knowing the reasons for our actions.

We have during all these thousands of years developed rules for the behaving with one another.

Whether it is called the Decalogue or the Taoist rules or the Muhammadan rules, most of these rules are very simple.

They recognize our need, which is in-built in us, so you could be right that something is genetic, a need to enlarge ourselves.

The rules permit us to enlarge ourselves but put a limit at the time we reach the area of the other person.

All set of rules are very annoyed when they have to give guidelines as to what should be done with people or groups that refuse to obey by these rules.

If you feel that you want your life to confirm to the Decalogue and you find yourself living in a kind of War West style country where the only rule is the rule of the gun, are you supposed to go on by your own rules and bring death to yourself and your family or are you supposed to go and buy a gun?

One man, for reasons difficult to understand, had the courage to stand up and say that any life was as good as my own life and that there was no way I could lift a sword to defend my life at the cost of another man's life.

Similar rules are found in the philosophy ruling Chinese thinkers more than two thousand years ago.

To summarize, nothing is God and nothing is Bad.

It is up to us to make our choice as to how we want to life.

But not all of us can take such a decision and obey by it.

You may be a believer in total peace but when a soldier holds your baby by the legs and drag out his knife, what are you supposed to do with the gun you picked up on the ground?

Worse than that, you may have been walking for days and weeks in the sun and thirst and danger, and the mad soldier is you and you are threatening to kill the baby because the villagers refuse to give water to what they see as a terrorist.

Nothing is bad and nothing is good.

Therefore the only opening for us is to ask (whom) in our hart for forgiveness.

Forgiveness for what?

For being the one that I was made?

But who made me?

This is discussed at great great length and in a very beautiful way in “Jeremie”

While the answer may appear to be lengthy, it is shamefully brief.

If I have offended anyone, please accept my apologies.

I think a child's upbringing determines his view on ethical decisions in life.

Parents and early childhood shape kids' minds and teach them right from wrong, and reinforce those teachings through good parenting.

I do not place a lot of stock in genetics when it comes to good and bad, but it definitely could play a role when talking about mental problems.

Its complex. We are born with instincts. Some of them are jusdged to be bad, but without guidance from parents we would never know they were. So its all relative.
