Wow...so many questions..ok, here goes.
Most engines are make of either old style iron or newer age aluminun with steel sleeves in the cylinders. Cylinders are just as they sound..a round long hole that goes through the engine block that contains the pistons. In this area air and fuel are mixed and ignited with a spark plug to created a controlled explosion that expands the gases and forces the piston down into the crankshaft. Because several pistons are working and the explosions are timed differently, the crankshaft turns and rotates. This rotating force is regulated through an item called a transmission which regulates how much speed is sent to the wheels at a time, and movement at the tires is then created.
Keeping with me so far???ok...now for some more...
Who made the first car??...Karl Benz in Germany shortly before the turn of the 19th Century.
Next question. Speed is created by 2 major factors...the amount of power that the engine can create and send to the tires, and the wind resistance of the car as it moves. A wedge shaped car will go through the wind easier than a block shaped car of equal horsepower.
Petrol ( or Gasoline ) is a by-product of oil that is very flammable. when mixed with air and egnited it creates a controlled explosion I discussed earlier.
Oil is used in the engine, transmission, and in other places in the auto to reduce friction ( the force of 2 parts rubbing together ) Friction will destroy parts and seriously decrease the live expectacy of a vehicle. Water is used to cool the engine (and the oil, by the way ) that is also created by friction.
The Bentley information I regret to say is something you're gonna have to get somewhere else. I don't know anything about Bentleys or their cost. Hope I was of some assistance. Watchlizard

Well you start with the engine block...this is the big piece that everything else attaches to...on top of the block you have the 'head', which is also the top of the cylinders, which are inside the block. At the bottom of each cylinder, you have a piston, which moves inside the cylinder up-and-down. These stand on connecting rods, which are attached to the crankshaft, which is in the bottom of the engine. The crankshaft is also attached to the flywheel, which is what your clutch or torque converter is attached to, which in turn is connected to the transmission, which takes the power to the wheels. So, piston moves down, pushes the connecting rod, which turns the cranshaft, which turns the flywheel, which turns the transmission, which turns the wheels.

The entire engine is usually made out of steel, which is heat-resistant.

A Bentley is a british made car, most of it is hand-made, and therefore very expensive. It's a luxury car, and they're pretty rare...

Wow. You are asking a lot of good questions. Very difficult to answer them effectively here.

I would recommend going to www.howstuffworks.com and looking up "4 cycle engine" That should answer your question about cylinders, among other things. There are several books out there that deal with the history of the automobile. Try amazon.com or any major bookstore. A book about car racing or race car engineering should help you learn about high speed cars.
Information about modern Bentleys (or any modern car for that matter) can be obtained from the manufacturer's web site, or automotive magazines (try motortrend.com and caranddriver.com)

Hope this helps get you started and good luck.

The engine - aluminum or iron, varies by the brand.
Cylinders - Stainless stell.
Carbon fibres - Thin fibres that when used in a matrix (with adhesive) make strong panles.
Petrol - By burning it the volume increases and exerts force on the cylinders.
That's enough for 1 day !

Here is the start on the engine thing.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine

Start there, and then just start exploring Wikipedia for all your car questions.
Typically cars are not more expensive due to their quality, just their demand or "image". In fact Bentley is one of the more unreliable of cars... but they fetch a high price for exclusivity.
