Sampras used to get points only on his serve. Federer creates points to win. Incredible talent, isn't it? So, you know what I mean.

It's verrrry close in my mind.

As far as major titles, I think Federer (8) will one day surpass Sampras (14). But, I believe that Federer has a little better all-around game than Pete. I'd give Pete the edge on serve, and volley, and of course, the serve-and-volley attack game. I like Federer a little better from the ground, and believe that he can find more ways to win a match.

(But, as I've psoted before, in my mind the #1 player of the last 50 years - if not for all-time - was Rod Laver. And, I'm guessing that neither Sampras nor Federer would argue with that assessment.)

Federer has a better all round game. You are right Sampras got points on his serve but a lot more guys are serving faster now and better. That includes Federer.

Federer has a much more complete game and far more shot variety. He has a superior defensive game and is way better on clay than Sampras ever was. That said, Pete still holds the record for Slam titles won so, at least in the record books, he remains the better of the two. That said, with eight Majors won at only twenty-four years of age, Federer could end up overtaking him.

Federer is better for his sheer steadfast attitude. He springs up absolute winners from nowhere, has got remarkable agility and rebounds with zeal- all these give him an edge, which if consistent can make him an all time great even ahead of sampras

They both are amazing players but Federer is much better he knows how to play and attack, I really got to say that Federer is really clean in the game and doesn't actually complain about results when he lost against Nadal in some matches and although he was feeling terrible he didn't show it. Some he is an inspiration on and off the court!!

I think they are both good...Sampras was good in his time and Federer is good now...if they had had the chance to go head-to-head...we would have known for sure who was better...
