"and the first in the gang to die" has too many syllables to go with the previous lines. Why not "He was the first to do time, and he was the first one to die."

only if u play up the rhyme between hand and gang cuz they dont quite match up, but otherwise yes. its very loaded; it says so much in so little space. i already know so much about this man and his life and it serves for a very good lesson. hope the rest of the song can keep up with this lyric. kudos.
