My answer depends on why this guy dislikes you. If he doesn't like you b/c you have different philosophies, opinions and morals then him, then I would distance myself b/c he is too close minded to accept that we can agree to disagree.

If he dislikes you b/c you did something to offend him then I would try and apologize and attempt to change my behavior, if I wanted to be friends with this person.

If there is no basis for this person disliking you, again, if he is worth it, I would attempt to befriend him and prove him wrong.

Distance myself and forget about him, life is too short to please others. Having said that I don't go out of my way to be rude or mean rather be as kind as possible. But people will always think what they want to think and there is not much you can do. My attitude is "this is who I am, take it or leave it" and so far has worked well with me.

Yes. its a challenge, no gain & no loss. It will let me know more about myself, & if he dislikes something which is a positive quality of mine, i will start disliking him.

If a person does't like you then they must have a good reason. you can't make someone be you're friend.they either like you from the start or they don't.and if they don't then move on. because you don't need to hang around and make someone like you.
