Check the oil to see if water is present. You probably have cracked the heads or something else. If the car quit running from overheating it is probably time for an engine. Good luck !

Yes, you blew your head gasket and possibly cracked a head. This will be a tough job. Either you'll have to fix the engine or get another car. It may be cheaper to just go buy a put around car and wait until later to fix the malibu. I'm guessing around 1000 to 1500 bucks to repair unless you do it yourself. Good luck....sorry for your troubles.

Firstly, your radiator is breached from overheating. If it has a 'plastic' top and bottom ( top is where you pour your coolant ) of the 'core', they can't be fixed, have to get a new one ( having same prob. here )
Fortunately, my engine 'head' and block are still intact. I've started it and drove it onto the tow truck, then backed it off and parked it at home.
But, if you car won't start, you have probably overheated it so intensely, a new 'head' or even new 'block' will be essential. If it has aluminum head(s), they are almost certainly ruined.

Here are a couple of Malibu sites. You overheated, wait for it to cool down and then try putting some water in it and see if it starts, its going to overheat again, if it starts, so good luck

I do believe you ruined a head gasket
and maybe even warped the head
especially so if it has an aluminum head
