I have a car, a phone, computer, the web, an office. I just started my own business, but I have no money or customers? How can I get buyers. What is a good way to make my new self employed business profitable?

Your first step should be to get some well designed business cards, letterhead and envelopes printed up. You have to project your business as professional. Have your business name and logo lettered onto your vehicle. Some small advertising gimmocks to hand out can really help to get your name out there. ( matches, pens, pencils etc.) They will more than make your money back with the extra business you will get once people know that you exist. Advertising is your best friend when you are competing against other businesses. Put ads in your local papers and make up posters to staple up on bulliten boards at grocery stores, public boards, etc.along with some business cards for people to take along with them. Do you know some one who can put together a website for you? Approach businesses in the line of work that you would like to do work for, tell them about your business and leave your business card. Tell them that you will cut the cost of the jobs you do for them if they dirrect business your way. ( everyone loves a bargain.) If you have the type of business that would allow you to do a couple of small volunteer jobs for charities or service clubs in your area, they usually post stuff like that in newspaper articles, etc. and they will tell people about how your business helped them out. Word of mouth advertising is one of the most effective advertising avenues there is and it doesn't cost a dime. List your business with the Better Business Bureau, and join the Chamber of Commerce in your area. Networking with other business owners will net you a lot of business and leads. I don't know where you are but I know in Canada there are several grants and loans available to help get small businesses up and running. You may want to check that out as well. Keep in mind that the business won't just come to you, you have to go after it. Congratulations on your new business and the best of luck to you.
Here are a couple of excellent websites on starting up your business as well as free tutorials on subjects neccessary to running your own business. Hope this is helpful to you.

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* 301 Do-It-Yourself Marketing Ideas: From America's Most Innovative Small Companies by Sam Decker
* Off The Wall Marketing Ideas: Jumpstart Your Sales without Busting Your Budget by Nancy Michaels, Debbi J. Karpowicz
* Guerrilla Marketing for Free: Dozens of No-Cost Tactics to Promote Your Business and Energize Your Profits by Jay Conrad Levinson
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: Over 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through the Roof by James Stephenson

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website.
