I am not wanting to lose like 100lbs or anything I would just like to stay at my curent weight or maybe a little less. I gained so much with my other children. When I got pregnant with my 1st child I was 160lbs. All my wt has come from being pg so I don't want to gain anymore for fear of weighing 300lbs. My midwife is wonderful btw she has delived over 1000 babies and has had a few moms lose during pregnancy with baby being wonderfully healthy. thanks all of you for your input you have been helpful!!

First of all, gaining weight during a pregnancy is very normal. If you wish to lose weight, you should do it after you give birth. Trying to lose weight while being pregnant (e.g. dieting or exercise, I'm not even going to mention weight loss pills because that's completely out of the question) could lead to your child having a lack of nutrients, especially if your body panics and starts to cling on to everything you eat and not pass anything to the baby. This could result in a lot of developmental problems for the foetus.

I think the best for you would be to eat healthily. If you crave for chocolates, have a little bit, or substitute it with some peaches. If you crave for cheesecake, have a small slice and an apple later or something. You can also do some light exercise. Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you can't do any exercise at all. You could take a light walk, or meditate, or even go swimming (actually it'll probably be more like wading in the pool). This is not only beneficial for the baby, but will allow you to keep fit and thus lose the baby weight more easily after you give birth.

If you insist on going on a dieting/exercise regime, it is always better to consult your physician first, who can more confidently assess your physical situation and advise you on what to do.

Anyway, pregnant mothers look good no matter what, they are always so radiant! :-)

I have never heard of safely losing weight during pregnancy. You need to gain weight for your baby's health (2 pounds a week usually) Blood, amniotic fluid, breast changes, etc all contribute to the weight gain. It is not fat gain. I would talk to someone else about this. I am not telling you not to trust your midwife, but I really want to make sure that you and your baby are healthy in your pregnancy! You can focus on taking this weight off after you have the baby!

Well I would have to disagree with her. Some midwives say this, but they have been finding out the dangers associated with it. Even if you are alittle overweight then this is not the time to lose. I would just try to eat healthy, like a fruit and veggie of some sort at every meal. Also until you are about 7-8 months try to walk for 30 minutes everyday. The only effective way to loose weight is to excercise and cut calories. But being pregnant this is dangerous because the baby is already taking so much out of you. It would send your body into a whirleind and you will lose energy. Try the carnation goodstart breakfast shakes withy our breakfast. This makes it easier. Good luck

Determine with your physician what the correct amount of calories that you need is and stick to it. During pregnancy your metabolism speeds up and weight loss is actually easier. You may still appear to gain weight on the scales due to the baby and fluid while being able to see weight loss in your face , thighs and other areas. The true loss will show up about 2 weeks after delivery once the baby is out and all the fluid is gone. I lost 26 pounds with my first and 40 with my 2nd. It really is the easiest time to lose weight as long as you eat healthy , take your vitamins and avoid the crazy sweets cravings.

If you eat healthy and exercise you will find that you gain a minimal about that should be ( I won't say easy) not too hard to drop after the baby comes. We both know this gets harder as we get older. I really believe that some weight gain is vital to the baby. I gained only 15 lbs with my middle son and a great deal of that was baby and baby related weight that came off right after delivery. I found that a mommy and me class after the baby is born is a wonderful way to drop the weight as well as spend some one on one time with the baby I know from experience that by the 4th one you need that. Good Luck

Try to eat more healthy like fruits and veggies. Stay away from fatty foods like McD's. Walk more and drink more water. Only eat small portions of meals (6 meals a day) everyday. With these small portions, it'll make your metabolism start working faster and cutting down on fats quicker. Just don't drink any Slim Fast or any type of diet products that could harm the baby, other wise you would loose weight and the baby would be perfectly fine.

Congrats.

You shouldn't loose any weight during your pregnancy, but I'm overweight too and they advise you to just not gain too much. I think overweight women are told to only gain 15 lbs or so (vs. 25-30 for normal weight people)

Just worry about eating healthy and then worry about the weight after the baby is born.

wow... i have NEVER heard that it's okay to lose weight during pregnancy. even if you're overweight most doctors recommend gaining 10-15 lb.

however, you CAN maintain your weight (or possibly lose a tiny bit) by counting calories.

go to
http://www.prevention.com/caloriecalculator
and find out how many calories are required for your age, weight, and activity level. however many calories it says you use in a day, eat that many to maintain your weight for the first trimester. then add about 300 calories a day to that number for your second and third trimesters.

if you are going to count calories, PLEASE make sure you are eating HIGH QUALITY calories and getting enough fat in your diet. this is a crucial time for your baby's brain development, and fat in your diet is very important. eating lots of fruits and vegetables will help you keep your calories low while providing a lot of nutrition for the baby.

good luck to you!

Are you F*****G kidding me? This is your 4th kid? Why did'nt the mid wife tell you how to do it in a safe manner? Eat!!! Don't diet and after the baby is born you can concentrate on losing weight! Another plus might be ( and your mid wife should have told you this) that usually over weight women don't gain as much!

After you have your baby try ekens, south beach, or something simple like low fat and low carb. Right now you need to eat regulary so your baby stays healthy. Not to be mean but If you eat alot only eat 3 meals a day and if you wantsnack in between lunch and dinner. After the baby is on bottles go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week.
