well...after a while they'll get used to it. all u need to do is: as soon as u bring the hamster home, set his cage in a quiet private area and make your doggy understand that that place is off limits or a "quiet zone" if he understands. the only reason u should go into the hamsters room is to clean it's cage, feed him or check on him and they'll get along just fine.
good luck =)

Our hamsters got out late one night. Luckily I saw one of them run down the hall and started rounding them up, but not before my cat caught sight on the last one still on the loose. Picture this: it's 2 a.m. and here's a grown woman down on all fours, holding the cat by the tail with one hand and reaching for a hamster with the other... the noise woke the dog who started barking at the cat, who couldn't decide if he should chase the hamster or run from me and the dog. If that little scenario didn't give a hamster a heart attack nothing will.

Yes< you can get a hamster as long as you have a room with a door that you can keep him in separate from the dog when you are not around to watch them. I have a hampster kept in sons bedroom with door closed and the dogs are downstairs. Works out fine. But I would never leave them alone in the room together.

Yes, by all means get a hamster, but keep it in a cage above floor level where your dog can't rush up to it and bark at at and make its life a living hell.

if u keep ur hamster in a seperate room, preferably a room the dog is not allowed in, then hamster should be ok. keep it off the ground out of reach of dog. i have 3 cat's, and 2 hamsters. they get along fine. buy a bal for your hamster, so it can have a run around in safety, also good exercise for it!

well i had a hampster, dog, and cat. my cat was a demon from hell. my hampster did not show any fear of my cat or dog. yes my dog barked a lot too (a shetland sheepdog) the hampster would get into its ball and actually ram through my cat and dog disturbing them. so i may have just had a super hampster or thats the same for all.

I would say no don't put a hamster to all that trauma. It would have been different if the hamster was in the house first and that way you could have go the dog acquainted to the hamster. It is just to traumatic please don't!

often times hamsters only randomly squeak. they're often quiet talkative often times. they could be even chatting with one yet another. Or they could be having territorial subject matters. yet they're like cats. some communicate each and every of the time, and some do not communicate in any respect.
