Don't you think it depends on the question? If there is alot of info to share, then some answers will be longer. But you can certainly answer some questions with only a few words and get your point across, as well. And, by the way, not all of us do this to try to get votes for best answers...

Isn't that the purpose is to try to get the 10 points? Some answers require greater explaination than others depending on the question asked and the level of detail the person answering is trying to provide.

Yes, I do! I know that I give long answers sometimes, but I don't really mean too...I only type it if it's really necessary to get my point across. However, I do know that if an answer is too long and doesn't interest me, I stop reading it halway through and chances are good that I don't pick it as best!

Well, I'd put the blame on those people who vote for long answers and aren't reading the shorter ones to see if they're better.

It's not always because someone wants to be voted "best answer." Sometimes they feel it necessary to take some time to answer a question.

Cut and paste monsters so they are! I give long answers but that is due to a tendency to ramble not for the pointless points.

~I think you may now be leagaly required to pick the shortest answer as best!

Yes. I think the best answers are direct and to the point.

No. Only a self-absorbed, egotistical, narrow-minded, person with ADHD would bi-pass an answer that just MIGHT be an answer worth reading.

I don't think they do it for that, I think they are passionate in their beliefs about the question and seriously want to answer it in a "correct" manner and not just "blow it off" with a smart *ss answer. You know how you FEEL ABOUT THIS QUESTION? Thats how they feel about the others!

Yes. People always do that to me and most of the time they have no idea what they are talking about.
