Dell is the best but when you buy it anywhere, make sure they have that word/powerpiont.. make sure they have microsoft office load on your computer because you do not want to go out and spend over 100 dollars to purchse that stuff. If you are in school and have funds thru finanical aid or grants, you can purchase it at the bookstore.

They have two different types of software...Microsoft office which is used for personal home they would have basic stuff like internet, microsoft office, media play and stuff like that whereas Microsoft Professional has microsoft office like business money, business plan, um.. business cards, excel, powerpoint, word and much more stuff that is use professionally.

If that's all you need it for then any $500 laptop made in the last 3 years will do. If you want to play games or do 3d rendering CAD work then you need something higher end in the $2000 range, but for office and internet almost any you can currently buy will do the job.

Nice to have? For business and office use, a good option is to get one with a widescreen or larger than your standard 15" display. It's easy on the eyes and if you ever want to watch a DVD, it looks a lot nicer too.

Built in wireless is also handy since if your office/home is set up for wireless access then you don't have to plug in to use the internet.

MacBook Pro 15.4" with 1GB RAM and 100GB hard drive. Get MS Office for Mac to run MS Word and PPT, and an AirPort 802.11g unit to connect wirelessly to your printer.

Lots of stuff you should know before you buy a laptop like screen size, quality, resolution, battery life, cost, video cards etc. etc. Go through these reviews at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/cheap-laptop.html .

The best laptop is a free one that works and doeseverything you want.
second best is the same laptop, but you had to pay for it.
Most laptops will come with free software bundles to entice you to buy it.
If that software is your main purpose, look for a laptop that comes with that software.
Lets face it, if the laptop comes bundled with the software, you know it'll have no problems running it.
