In that time Crucifixion was a very common way to kill people and normally they were left for quite a number of days usually dying of thirst rather than their wounds, with their dead bodies being seen as an example to deter others. In such circumstances it is hard to conceive that survival past the third day is possible but definitely it is a day or two and not hours. Every year in some part of Southern Italy they crucify someone in an Easter symbolic celebration and a human cannot hang the weight of his own body weight by simple nails in the hands and feet and normally people were tied to the cross as well as nailed.

I believe it was 3 hours. I just saw the answer above mine. 40 days and 40 nights was the amt of time Jesus spent in praying (in the desert, I believe) anyway- the 40 days and 40 nights is the time of lent. Dying on the cross is only Good Friday.

genuine Christianity refrains from the cost of idolatry via utilizing ANY symbols in its worship. Secondly, the Greek term used in the Bible for the device of Jesus' dying is staur'os which via no capacity shows that it became into something different than an upright stake or pole (with out crossbeam indicated making it the form of a circulate). Jesus did no longer die on a circulate, and genuine Christians remember his sacrifice on a daily basis with out the will for some actual represention of it saved around their necks or of their properties or automobiles.

I don't believe the bible states how long he was on the cross. You need to ask a pastor or theologian this question. Go to the Religion section.
