20+ year veteran R.N. here...
First you have to determine where the blood came from. If you're a male, it was probably your rectum. If you're female, it may also be coming from your vagina (which could be your menstrual period...perfectly normal)
If it is coming from your rectum (where the stool comes out when you have a bowel movement) and this was your first episode, and you haven't seen a doctor yet, I recommend you do so. Rectal bleeding should always be checked out by a doctor.
There are many things that can cause rectal bleeding of this nature some are benign, others aren't: internal hemorrhoids and fissures are the most common causes.
But, as I stated before, you need to get it evaluated to make certain there insn't something serious going on.

You might have undecended hemmoroids. You also might have just had a very hard stool that caused some tearing of the fragile membranes in your rectum. Black stools usually indicate internal bleeding. So if the stool was a normal color, you probably just need to add more fiber and water to your diet. You also might consider a stool softener. However, when in doubt, ask a doctor.

Black blood means internal bleeding (which was degraded on the way through) red blood means something wrond on the exit door. Hemmorhoids probably. See a doc or get some medicine.

Now here ladies and gents is a question for the Internet!!!
Bleeding from a body orifice and the first thing you do is run to your 'puter desk and tap away. Yup..that's the way I'd handle it.
"I just lopped off my left arm with my uncles chainsaw..does anyone know if this might have dulled the blade?"
Pure genius...

yep, sound like the big H.. emmorroids.. bright blood would be from the rectum.. dark (older) blood would be from further up.. Unless its a LOT of blood, I would not worry. If painful, see the doc. otherwise, try some prep-H.. really does work!

You should definitely see a doctor... A friend of the family had the same problem...and she found out she had colon cancer. Good Luck and hope it's just hemoroids.

Sounds like Hemorrhoids to me... could be a pyleonadal cyst, too, but I'd put money on Hemorrhoids.

If this happens again go to the doctor. It's probably not serious, just hemorrhoids.
