Shouldnt if be our right to wear a seat belt or no? My uncle was hit in the driver door. The door, and my uncle went out the passenger door, and the stick shift and sleen and kidney went up in his right lung. He was pronounced dead on scene, (revived), pronounced dead in the ambulance(revived), pronounced dead in the er (revived). Several surgeries, 5 days of coma, and 6 years of rehab later. He escaped with only functional brain damage.
The doc said if he had on his seat belt he would not have made it for sure, because it would have trapped him, instead of pushing him out the other door.
He was on the job too, and only recieved $10k. And, the drunk driver that hit him recieved 5 yrs probation for a dui and a 5k fine.

this is another example of govt. intruding where they have no right. they put out all kinds of numbers saying how many people died not wearing seatbelts, but they never post the numbers who die in wrecks while wearing them.

Freedom, means freedom to choose. This includes poor choices. I believe that it is none of the government's business. Drive without a seatbelt. Ride a motorcycle in shorts and flip-flops.

And live with the consequences. If you weren't wearing your seat belt, your insurance company shouldn't have to pay out the full amount, since you are now responsible for the extent of your injuries. Unless, of course, you pay the higher "no seat belt" premiums. Taking a higher risk means paying a higher price, yes?

I don't think it should be a law that you HAVE to wear a seat belt. I do think it should pertain only to the validity of insurance coverage with respect to any personal bodily injury coverage a claimant might carry on his/her policy. A fair plan would be if you're in an accident and found by investigation to have NOT been wearing a seat belt then (1) if you're the insured and AT fault with personal bodily injury then you have no claim or (2) if you're the insured and NOT at fault with personal bodily injury then you have reason to claim because you're not at fault in which case had the other driver not hit you then the seat belt would not have been necessary to start with.

that is a very sad story ,about your Dads terrible accident . and it was remarkable that he survived .

as a paramedic i have been involved in the rescue ,of many road accident victims.
No two accidents are the same , a side impact is particularly given too fatal out comes

However , i have found many "loose" casualties who died needlessly
,because they had no seat belt to anchor them, safely inside the vehicle.
. And being thrown around inside the car and often, out through the windscreen.or rear screen does cause horrific injuries .

I personally think the law on seat belts, is a good move towards road safety

effective child restraints , airbags and adherance to speed limits, also take a big part in road safety.

Stay safe , all you out there in the traffic!

I agree that it should be our right to wear a seatbelt. I have heard of similar stories aout wearing one during an accident. Sometimes that Can kill also. I think it's a matter of opinion. I do not wear one usually. I will wear one, however, if someone is tailgating while on the highway or any similar situation when I feel I could go through the windshield. Otherwise, they wrinkle my clothes too much. Sorry about your uncle, but sometimes there is just no justice.

I'm totally for a law making parents use seatbelts/car seats for their children. However, once you are old enough to drive, this is a decision that should be yours alone. The only person that would get hurt from me not wearing my seat belt is me. And that is not the business of the law.

I say yea!

But only due to the fact that there are more lives saved by set belts than are lost by wearing one. Yet I think it is a violation of our right to choice.

However, Most peopel would not belt thier children if it was not a law, and for the children it should stand.

Seat belts save lives. You can't argue with that. I do question the governments authority to tell us we have to. Kids yes, but if your over 18 than I feel it is a personal choice. I guess its just another personal freedom lost in the wind.

i've got continually questioned approximately that. extremely with college buses. perhaps it has to do with bus textile being different than vehicle textile. Or the quantity of area in a bus as against a vehicle? On city buses, what extremely bothers me are those flimsy straps that stress my arms because of the fact i'm kinda short. If something occurred, i might completely get tossed! i will wrap my arms around a pole, yet i will somewhat grasp directly to the straps whilst the bus stops or starts off. perhaps it extremely is reason bus drivers have their particular bus guidance and bus licenses. Or because of the fact they are able to't flow too quickly reason they stop all the time? nevertheless, it would be intense-high quality for the duration of rush hour, whilst i'm no longer completely wakeful, to have some form of precaution. Or with Grayhound, on an prolonged holiday. Be intense-high quality to a minimum of supply you the choice to strap myself in befall I flow to sleep.

Seatbelts save lives, and tax dollars. Most people who don't wear seat belts are stereotypically low class people in junk cars, who would have to be patched up on government dollars.

Yeah I believe that it should be our right to decide whether or not to wear a seat belt just like it is our right to smoke if we want to.
