This is also why you find much higher buildings in Chicago than in New York City where earthquakes are not so much of a problem. Older buildings completed before the new standards are sometimes required to be retrofitted.

Well, that's simple, all sky-scrapers are now built on giant Slinkys...that way, when there's an earthquake, they weeble, they wobble, but they won't fall down! LOL
