There are literally millions of man-made satellites, depending on what you're willing to call a satellite. There are those that are intentionally launched, such as weather satellites, science platforms, and stuff like that, but there are also accidental satellites as well, which are comprised mainly of paint flecks, bolts, screws and fragments of debris from explosively released hardware packets...and of course, there's our own moon.
Earth is literally cocooned in a cloud of debris, but most of it is too small to see, but there are examples of space shuttles actually receiving minor damage from collisions with some of these "satellites." The best example is actually the space shuttle Challenger, which suffered a collision with a fleck of paint that left a harmless little ding in one of its windows. The damage was pretty much negligible, but it proved, back in the 1980s, that the bulk of the satellites in earth orbit are not exactly placed there intentionally. As for intentional artificial satellites, I am quite sure that there are hundreds at least.

Actually no one knows because many are Black-ops and Russian defense. They too have secret ones as well as China and other countries. However, its a massive number. Many times we've done "repair work" on something it was to launch a satellite.

There are now so many, when the guy goes space-walking, he can really walk! LOL
I actually have no clue, but I'll bet if you lined em all up together, it'd look a lot like one of those candy gum things the kids have...
