Because our emotions/sentimentality prevents us from doing the sensible thing and getting rid of stuff that just ties us down. Especially when the cost of storing the stuff becomes several times the value of the stuff stored, you know you've got a problem. It's a battle I face everyday!

Because you can't take it all, and also you have the garage full at home, where you going to leave the other important things that you have?

They can't get rid of the junk and stuff so they keep it and then leave it for someone else to get rid of when they do go.

Because they had already went ONCE and couldn't take it with them, so they learned their lesson and put it in storage.
