Anime mostly are aired in the afternoon. daily... after 5 because that the time most school children comes from school or friends house and the time where moms are preparing the dinner and dad is on his way home so they spend time watching tv before dinner and mostly ends around 9 pm ..then these kids would start preparing for their assignments so not much are watching later than that if you are a kid.. on Saturdays there are anime in the morning till night and Sundays.. Sometimes they have anime early in the morning...on weekdays..for adults... there are more matured stories like love and war, rivalries and friendship.. for the late watchers.. .. . when it is holidays or school vacation.
they often watch anime a lot especially the kids.. I do watch anime too.. not now we don't have Japan cable channel.. (sigh)

The more "adult" anime are in late night time slots, often 23:00-00:00. The kids stuff is on in the after school slot 16:00-18:00 or so. Doraemon is always Friday evening at 20:00 or so, I assume because it's not such a big homework distraction on a Friday night. Family fare like Sazae-san is on every Sunday evening (for about the past 40 years) as well as Chibi-Maruko chan. Feature length animation is sometimes on the Saturday night movie. Of course if you have the anime channel you can watch anime 24/7. Please don't sit too close to the television!
