I said I'd ask Y answers to confirm what we all know in the pub.
Samuel spends hours over the garden fence chatting to the woman next door who's partner is on an oil rig. Nothing in it he says. Now she's suggesting he nips round to get her on the internet. His own wife has warned him but he swears the woman is genuine. What to do?

No doesn't have to end in tears. But wife has to talk to neighbour and could go with him and have a cup of tea and a chat while he sets up the PC for internet. And maybe she is just lonely and might welcome the chance to have tea with the wife?

Dear Earthcalling, Speaking as a typical man, I can assure you that it will go beyond what is deemed normal 'over the fence neighbourlyness'. As you seem painfully aware, it is looking more likely as time goes on.
Did he always spend hours chatting to her or is it recent. Say since her husband went back to the rig?
Is he usually a helpful person?
Ask yourself if he is doing anything out of character for him, such as paying more attention to his appearance, wearing aftershave when he normally wouldn't bother, being offhand or even more attentive than normal. Extra attentiveness is a good scam when you want to mess about eslewhere. I know!
I am sorry you are having to watch your husband? do this because you are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Have you confronted him about it? If so, what was his reaction?
Have you spoken to the neighbour about it?
Nipping round to get her on the internet sounds dodgy. What else will he end up getting her on? suggest yuo go with him so you can chat with her while he does the business. If there is nothing going on then he should have no reason to object. If there is then he will try and think of anything that will stop you going too. Or he will sulk because you have spoilt his potential fun.
To sum up, Earthcalling, I can see no good coming of it. You need to nip it in the bud if you can. Maybe it is just a bit of harmless flirting but unless you make it obvious you are aware of his attention to her, then I feel it will go beyond flirting over the fence.
Good luck. Please let me know the outcome. I hope I am wrong.

Hi, as a house husband, i would like to say that i talk to the girl next door quite often, i visit the lady up the road etc etc. So just because i go in and out their houses that should mean that I'm having an affair with them or at the very least trying to?

A male and a female can have a relationship with out wanting to resort to sex.... i have many female Friends and have not had sex with any..... OK so it may be because they don't fancy me....lol but at the end of the day even if they think I'm the sexiest man on this earth the final decision is mine to say yes or no. I also would expect my wife to trust me (as she does) other wise whats the point of the relationship?

If he is in a relationship, he shouldn't be talking to people of the opposite sex. There might not be anything in it right now, but why on Earth invite the trouble and hurt the person that you are committed to, unless you are looking for the trouble. He needs to nip this in the bud, and I think that everyone in the "pub" is right.
