Bras, in the US, have two indicators of size, a band size and a cup size, which when combined become the bra size. The band size is expressed in inches, almost exclusively in 2 inch increments, and cup size is expressed in letters, beginning with A, and continuing alphabetically. In the case of cup sizes larger than D, manufactures will often use double or triple letter designations, with each successive letter indicating a larger cup size.

With that in mind, standard bra sizes range from 30A-46DDD. Both larger and smaller sizes are available, but they are often hard to find, and frequently need to be custom made at great cost.

As if this were not confusing enough already, band size, and cup size effect one another in one half size increments, so that the volume of a 32C cup, is smaller than the cup of a 36C cup – in fact – because the 32C band size is two increments smaller than the 36C cup size, and each increment increases the volume of the cup size one half size, the volume of a 36C cup is actually identical to the volume of a 32D cup, through the band size on the 32D is two increments smaller. This knowledge become quite helpful for girls who, when trying on bras find that they are consistently between two different bra sizes. Very likely the proper size for such a girl will be a band size one size smaller, with a cup size one size larger.

With all of this complication, and with people’s general uneasiness with anything having to do with undergarments, is it any wonder that recent estimates suggest that as many as 70% of women are wearing the wrong size bra?

The solution is to get the proper size bra. Go to a Leggs Hanes Bali store and get a proper fitting – or just try on a bunch of sizes until you find the one that is most comfy and looks the best on you.

Now if you want to appear a bit bigger than you are...

Basically what you want to do is to put something underneath your boobs to prop them up for viewing, and make them appear as if they are larger than they really are. The easiest way to do this is to make a little mattress for them inside of your bra. ALSO, by only putting padding underneath your boobs, it will be much more difficult to detect your subterfuge.

First gather your materials:

For the filling, you can use anything that is available, and comfortable to use. But keep in mind that things like Kleenex, or toilet tissue will compact over time, and they will fall apart if they get wet – even just from sweat. I would only use them in a pinch. Good choices include small cotton footie socks, or my personal favorite from the days when I was stuffing my bra, the legs of run pantyhose – just clip them off, and you are ready to go. Nylons won’t compress, they are soft and comfy, generally they are body colored, won’t deteriorate if you get them wet, are readily available, you can cut them down to whatever size you want them, and they are easy to make look smooth.

You will also need to get a bra – obviously. Use one of your larger bras, and use one that has fuller coverage. You can use a demi, but you run the risk of having your nipple pop out. Not always a bad thing, but not everyone’s cup of tea.

Step 1 – put on your bra.

Step 2 – Get your materials together (I will assume that you are using nylons).

Step 3 – take a leg of your hose, and lay it out as flat as you can easily get it, and then fold it up into a mattress of sorts that is about 6 inches wide. You should end up with something of a square that is maybe half an inch thick. Don’t worry too much about folding it – you will find a technique that you like – just make sure that it is relatively smooth. When you are folding it, make sure that most of the bulk is in the middle, and that the bulk tapers off toward the edges.

Step 4 – Fold up one edge about one third of the way across the pad, opposite the way you have been folding. So if you have been folding left and right, to build your square, now that you have a square, fold one third of it over, front to back. You should have a rectangle with one part that is big and bulky and twice as tall as the rest. It should be about 4 inches by 6 inches now.

Step 5 – slip your bra strap down and fold down the left bra cup. Your going to put the pad underneath your breast, towards the outside. If you look in the mirror at your left breast, the pad should go somewhere between 7 and 8 o’clock, but closer to 7. This will lift your breast up (for viewing) and towards the center (for cleavage). Slip the pad underneath your breast, with the bulky part of the pad against your ribcage, and so that the edge of the thinner part should be somewhere out near your nipple.

Step 6 – pull up your cup and your bra strap, and check for budges. Straiten out and smooth out anything you see that causes significant bulging. You can cut and wad up small pieces of nylon to smooth out small bulges, or shift the pad around a bit to make it comfy and look right. If you have bigger problems, you can take another leg and fold one third of it up length wise (so it is like 3 inches wide and 2 feet long) and then roll it up LOOSELY and use it for extra filler – again the folded / bulkier side should go against your rib cage.

Step 7 – repeat this process on the other side – taking care to make sure that the girls look symmetrical, and that there are no big tell-tale budges showing.

Step 8 – put a LITTLE bit of a darker blush or eye shadow into your cleavage to enhance the appearance of your cleavage. You are just making it look like it is a bit darker between the girls in order to make it look like the cleavage is casting a bit more shadow than it really is – which tricks the eye into thinking that it is a bit deeper than it really is. Be careful to not over do this or it will be obvious and not work.

Step 9 – Put on a low cut top and go and show off your new assets. Enjoy the attention, and have a good time.

A final note – if you are small breasted (and if you are not – why are you padding your bra) you can only really get away with about a cup size at most, and the bigger you are, the more you can add without getting caught. Besides – if you do more than that everyone will notice that you grew more than a cup size over night ... so have fun, but keep it reasonable.

And if you want to keep your gilrs perky - this is the secret...

This is what almost all of the women in my family do, (we are all pretty busty) and my aunts have stayed remarkably perky into their 50’s

FIRST – wear a properly fitting, well sized, supportive bra. This should be something that holds the girls up, and keeps them supported. Your everyday bras should be under wire, full coverage, and comfy. If your bras lack any of those characteristics – they are the wrong size / wrong bra for you. If your under wires poke you, you are wearing the wrong size. Go and have a bra fitting done for you. If you go to a Leggs Hanes Bali store the sales girls (and guys) are trained to fit your bra properly. I like Bali bras – but sometimes they are a bit lack luster in the fashion department, so I also wear a lot of VS Second Skin Satin bras – they fit me well, provide sufficient support for me (though more would be fine) and come in a huge variety of colors. I HATE Playtex bras. They are ugly, and they SMELL. Avoid them at all costs.

Never wear a soft cup bra for regular daily wear. There is simply not enough support to risk it. Besides, with a properly fit under wire bra, a good supportive under wire is at least as comfy as any soft cup.

Special occasions are special occasions, and require special bras – avoid going braless however – unless that is the occasion.

Second – When doing ANY type of exercise – including things like gardening – or anything else that may cause extra bouncing, wear a good, strong sports bra, something that is capable of holding the girls in and controlling all of the bounce. One of my aunts has been known to wear two sports bras on occasion. An even better solution is to not do any sort of bounce inducing exercise and confine your work-out to the pool. The water prevents you from doing any damage to your breasts (or joints) and provides excellent all over toning and cardio work out all in one.

Third – and this is the real secret – and it is the critical step. Wear a bra to bed. Sleep in a bra every night. This does not need to be a firm support under wire contraption, and it does not need to be uncomfortable at all. In fact – it should be comfortable. No one does a lot of bouncing when they sleep, so all this bra is doing is keeping the girls in place – it does not need to be firm support. These bras are a bit harder to find, but they are worth the effort, and worth what you have to pay. Try to find “leisure” bras, or “sleeping” bras. If you google them you will find something. They are a MUST if you want to remain perky for as long as possible – and well worth any trouble you may have to go through to find them.

Find a tape measurer (like for sewing). Measure around your back and under your breasts, this is the number part of your bra size. (probably in the 20's). Then move the tape up and measure around your nipple, it should be different (more than) the first number. Subtract the small number from the big number. 1 inch difference is an A cup, 2 inches a B cup, 3 inches a C and so on.

And don't be embarrassed to tell you mom, I'm sure she has boobs too...Or if you're really uncomfortable talk to an Aunt, older cousin, or even a friends mom that you trust.

Sports bras are a great option, cotton is really comfortable and NO under wires don't cause cancer, but you probably won't need one unless you're a C or greater...

Try something soft and supportive at first, it also helps stop you growing out of them fast which can be expensive at this stage, a sports bra is great in the summer, holds things comfortably but will still fit in a few months time. Underwires are best when you have a bit more chest, some young girls find them awkward at first.
Why not start with a sports bra (those crop top things) then your mum can get uused to the idea of seeing you in them and in the laundry, and when you need the next size up she'll already know you wear a bra and it won't be awkward to ask her?

you should really talk to your mom. its nothing to be ashamed of. i know that when i first got a bra, i was so embarrassed, but really everybody grows boobs eventually. you will be happy that you have them when you get older!
i found this website about "training bras" which is just a name for your first bra because they are usually just a little bit of support and very comfy so that you can get used to wearing a bra. hope that this helps!

Anything but a wire under where the support will be. Good elastic, or a sports bra is great for young girls becoming young women. (Note): wires causes cancer, So take heed in these types of bras.

Please don't be embarrassed to ask your mom. Bite your tongue and get up your nerve and ask her. This will be the start of a special bond between you two. You'll have alot more important questions that you'll need answered later, and this can break the ice.
