why do cucumbers curl up instead of growing straight?

at first they were all straight and looking good. Now they are curling up. Also parts of the cucumber skin looks like it was rubbed with sandpaper.

Not enough excitement ;^) No its probably to hot and dry(they need LOTS!!! of water)

As cucumbers get "older" they start to lose some fluid therefore causing them to shrivel and "curl". Their skin also dries up. Just like some people I know.
