She was jealous of her best friend because she was dating a model.
She was envious of her best friend and tried to seduce her new boyfriend!

I'd say envy is the superlative form of jealousy. Jealousy is just a feeling, but envy implies a severe emotion where you actually might do something about it.

They mean the same thing. Envious is just a stronger word to use. Instead of saying someone is excited you can say they are ecstatic. Get it?

Here are both of them used in a sentence:

She was full of jealousy because of all of the gold he owned.

She was very envious of the man because of all of the gold he owned.

Notice the 2nd sentence sounds better with a more powerful word. Hope this helps!

They are very similar, in fact under jealous in the dictionary the first definiton is; "1. envious: feeling bitter and unhappy because of another's advantages, possessions, or luck"

I think that jealous also has added meanings such as "suspicious of rivals", "watchful" and "demanding loyalty"

As for an example, that's tough because the words can be used interchangably if you are talking about being envious or jealous of someone/something.
