Get your septic tank pumped. If that doesn't do the trick call a plumber.

When you add water to the trap, mix it with bleach. If your shower is not used much the trap could be dry. If it is used often, their could be build up of soap scum, etc. causing the odor. Bleach will help clean this. If that doesn't solve the problem it could be your septic tank, but is more likely a vent problem. I would call a plumber before I had my septic tank pumped.

Septic sewage systems fill up. Depending on the amount of waste that your put in and the ability of your soil to absorb the runoff, the other solid wastes just fill the tank until you have to get it pumped out.

If the system backs up into the lowest drain in yo our home you should get it pumped. If it is only making bad smells, try using Rid-ex to increase the bacterial count and eliminate some of the odor.

I doubt it's your tank. It's probably your shower drain. Pour in some draino or, better yet, snake it.

There's an elbow under your shower drain that holds water to stop odors from your septic tank from coming up so that's why I think the issue is with the elbow itself.

All drains are supposed to have a trap installed to prevent sewer gas from backing up the pipes. The trap won't work if there's no water in it. If this shower is not used very often, you might want to pour a quart of water down the drain to seal the trap. With the hot weather lately, the water may have evaporated.
