Mammoth Cave NP is, well, mammoth! Largest cave in the world by a lot. 320 miles of passage. Sign up in advance (on-line?) for the spelunker's tour that goes a little bit off trail and well as the longer option on the walking tour.

The TAG (TN, AL, GA) area has half the country's caves. Dozens upon dozens of private ones. Of course the quality of the experience, the cave and the educational experience vary widely while the NP always does an excellent job.

If you're adventurous, look into the ones that offer "spelunking" or "wild cave" trips. They'll loan you coveralls and boots and you'll get really muddy doing it.

All the visitor's info places along the interstate will have free brochures for private cave tours throughout the region. Pick up a lot of brochures and call ahead to see what/when they offer. The ones I've liked best are by the owner/caver/enthusiast rather than a high school kid hired on for the summer.

There is one called The Lost Sea in Sweetwater, TN. Its got the usual underground cave rooms but its also got this massive lake down there too. They take you out on a boat ride and give you a nice little history lesson. There are additional caves that cost extra to explore cause they require climbing and repelling gear and they even have sleepovers in the cave if that's your cup of tea. Cheap price and a great little day trip.

Mammoth Cave is really awesome. I went there when I was younger and had the time of my life. Look it up on the Internet and it can tell you more.
