Sorry bout the long answer, but, you asked the question!!! And you didn't state WHAT 'apple'!
1. on an Apple/Mac with the INTEL duo, you can run Bootcamp, http://apple.com or, Parallax Software's 'Parallel' environment..
You will then be able to get infected by the 150,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions!!! Why go back to a 1980's design? Most of the very best software for the DOS enironment was written in, or ported to, MACs - long ago!
2. you can run any of the 500 Unix Clones, BSD (Yahoo runs FreeBSD!) or Gnu/Linux, in Boot Camp, on the Intel chipset!
Virus free, hacker proof, MODERN OSes!
3. Mac OS X IS BSD! It is DarwinBSD. The FREE versions of BSD, like Open DarwinBSD, can run in all the MACs that can run OS X, without the bootcamp!! Check out http://distrowatch.com and put into the search panel 'OpenDarwinBSD'.
4. you can run Ubuntu Linux, and several more GNU/Linux distros, native in your MAC no matter the processor!!!
http://ubuntu.org
5. There are 310 Live, FREE cdrom iso's and some are for MACs of all processor types! http://livecdlist.com
